Preliminary Unofficial Results from the Takoma Park Board of Elections (BoE) as of 8 pm on November 5.

In Ward 2, Jim Della-Giacoma had 655 votes, Suzy Stimler had 357 votes, and there were 9 write-in votes.

Citywide, officials have scanned and tabulated 5,076 ballots. These include the 1,016 votes cast in person on election day at the Community Center and 4,063 mail-in ballots accepted as of Nov. 5, with 866 not yet counted.

In Ward 2, Jim Della-Giacoma had 550 votes, Suzy Stimler 299 votes, with 9 write-in votes.

Board of Elections has received 5,838 ballots total as of 8:00 PM on Election Day and has processed 3,869 ballots. 1,015 in-person votes have been cast as of  8:00 pm. (These numbers are not updated.)

In the Ward 2 race, Jim Della-Giacoma, an international development consultant, was leading Suzy Stimler, a community activist.

The winner will replace current Council member Cindy Dyballa, who did not run for reelection.

In Ward 2, Jim Della-Giacoma had 509 votes, Suzy Stimler 268 Votes, with 9 write-in votes.

Board of Elections has received 5,838 ballots total as of 8:00 PM on Election Day and has processed 3,869 ballots. 1,015 in-person votes have been cast as of  8:00 pm.

Election Day is tomorrow, and there’s not much more for me to say.

If you haven’t returned your ballot yet, there is only one more important thing that I am going to ask you to do.

VOTE.

Ballots are out across the city. Whether yours is in your mailbox, on your coffee table, or lying on the counter, you know what you have to do - vote for Jim for Ward 2!

Drop boxes for completed city ballots are available in front of the Takoma Park Library and Recreation Center. You can also mail your ballot back using the city-provided, postage-paid envelope.  

Both contenders vying for the open Ward 2 city council seat view their candidacies as natural extensions of their community advocacy.

Mail ballots are working their way through the postal system right now and should be delivered by the end of the week.

Jim Della-Giacoma is an advocate for affordable housing, from volunteering on the Habitat for Humanity project on Garland Avenue to speaking in support of the Minor Master Plan Amendment.

Jim and his opponent Suzy Stimler had a wide-ranging and respectful debate at the city’s Election Forum last Thursday night.

A good crowd was present in the city auditorium, including Jim for Ward 2 supporters donning their orange and white campaign T-shirts, while many others watched from home.

Candidates for the open Ward 2 council seat found many areas of agreement at their Oct. 8 forum.

But Jim Della-Giacoma and Suzy Stimler disagreed over city spending and how the city should respond to ICE raids.

The weather is not cooperating with Takoma Park’s festival season, but Jim for Ward 2 and the community took it in stride.

Despite the weather, we were thrilled to interact with so many neighbors throughout the day. And our soggy spirits were buoyed by the overwhelming support we received from our volunteers, some of whom are pictured above.

It was a soggy day for the Folk Festival, but the organizers pulled off the retreat indoors admirably.

Jim and his merry band of volunteers, some of whom are pictured above, manned a campaign table all day.

More than just compliance, it was a good exercise to take stock and look back at the campaign so far. And so while we wait for our gold star from the BOE, we are also digging into other campaign metrics.

Outgoing Councilmember Cindy Dyballa endorsed Jim at this week’s city nominating caucus (more on that event below).  

In her own words (lightly edited for length and clarity):

I’m the current city councilmember and I do know something about what it takes to do the job. And so I support and second the nomination of Jim for city council.

The mayor told a resident to show “respect” and be quiet during a council meeting. Now he’s running against her.

“One of the things that my opponent doesn’t necessarily understand is that asking you to comply with the rules of order does not mean that you’re taking away someone’s freedom of speech,” she said in an interview.

On September 15, six Ward 2 neighbors stood up to support Jim's candidacy at the Takoma Park Nominating Caucus.

Labor Day is over and the nights are cooler. The season is changing, in more ways than one. Yes, fall is coming. But so is campaign season!

While our campaign has been working hard all summer, energized by our early supporters, now is the time when city elections enter the spotlight.

Election season has started in earnest after Ward 2 Councilmember Cindy Dyballa announced she wasn’t running for re-election, which guarantees at least one new face on the Takoma Park City Council next year.

Jim Della-Giacoma — a community volunteer and international consultant – has officially thrown his hat into the ring for election to Ward 2 council seat.

Jim Della-Giacoma — a longtime community volunteer and secretary of the City’s Emergency Preparedness Committee — today launched his campaign for the Ward 2 seat on the Takoma Park City Council in the fall 2026 municipal election.

In Takoma Park non-citizens and young people over the age of 16 can vote. There is more information here from the City's website.
